Zoom Whitening is a professional in-clinic teeth whitening treatment that uses hydrogen peroxide to remove discoloration. Yellowing of the teeth can be caused by consuming drinks like coffee, tea, and red wine. Smoking and natural aging also contribute to discoloration.

Zoom Whitening is a safe and effective whitening treatment that can lighten the teeth up to 8 shades. The procedure is not recommended for patients under 13 or pregnant and lactating women. It works by combining hydrogen peroxide gel and blue light to improve whitening. The light activates the hydrogen peroxide which breaks down and releases oxygen. These free molecules penetrate the enamel and lighten the discolored parts.

Before the treatment, dentists examine the patient to ensure that their teeth and gums are healthy. Depending on the patient's orthodontic history and presence of dental crowns or veneers, dentists may recommend specific techniques or products that work best for each patient.

The procedure takes about an hour and begins with professional cleaning to remove any surface stains. The dentist inserts a guard to cover the gums and lips, leaving only the teeth exposed. Then they apply the Zoom Whitening product to the teeth and turn on the blue light to activate the gel. This entire process takes 15 minutes, and it’s repeated a total of three times during the session. Once the whitening is completed, the dentist applies a fluoride gel to reduce sensitivity.

After the procedure, patients may experience some sensitivity that should subside over time. The treatment requires maintenance to ensure teeth continue to look bright. A dentist may provide at-home Zoom kits to whiten teeth using clear trays. It’s also important to avoid foods that could stain your teeth, such as coffee, colas, red wine, soy sauce, and pasta sauce.

Patients should continue to maintain good oral hygiene by brushing and flossing every day. Visiting the dentist for routine cleaning and check ups also helps protect a beautiful smile.
