V-line surgery is also known as mandibuloplasty. This surgical procedure reshapes the jawline and chin to create a sharper and more defined jaw. The operation essentially shaves down the jawbone and chin and it heals into a V-shaped silhouette. This is often seen as a more feminine shape.
The V-line surgery requires general anesthetic and takes about 1-2 hours. Surgeons make an incision first across the jawline and the chin. Then they shave down the bone at an angle to create a sharper contour. In some cases, they may have to trim the chin too. Sometimes they insert an implant to create a more prominent chin. Once the procedure is over, they close the site with sutures and apply surgical dressings. Drains may be inserted to reduce fluid build-up and improve healing. Some patients may need to stay in the hospital for a day for mandatory observation.
Patients may experience some bruising, swelling and pain after the surgery. Doctors often prescribe anti-inflammatory pain medication to ease the discomfort. Patients should wear a compression garment around the face to support the jaw and aid healing. They should also refrain from strenuous exercise and follow a soft food diet to avoid excessive use of the jaw. The swelling will subside after a week, but complete recovery can take up to 3 weeks.
Unlike non-invasive options like fillers, Botox and CoolSculpting, a V-line surgery has permanent results and cannot be reversed.
