The term Light Therapy includes a variety of treatments. However, regarding cosmetic surgery, the most relevant treatments include using UV light to treat skin conditions like vitiligo. It can also refer to some laser treatments and LED treatments.

One example of laser light treatment is Low-level laser therapy (LLLT). This uses red and near-infrared wavelengths to treat scarring, wrinkles, hair loss, and burns. It can increase pigmentation or reduce the degree to which pigment is lost. It activates stem cells, thereby encouraging healing, increasing collagen production, and enhancing circulation to combat the damage from UV light.

LED light therapy uses color wavelengths that have individual benefits for the skin. In instances where the skin is unable to rejuvenate itself, LED light strengthens cells. The procedure involves using a device to administer the light.  While there are some devices on the market for home use, treatments administered by professionals tend to be more effective. Results are visible after the first treatment, but several treatments and maintenance sessions are required for long-lasting results.

LED light therapy uses various wavelengths of light.  Blue light kills bacteria, tightens and tones the skin, and reduces wrinkling, while red light increases hydration and reduces inflammation. It can also shrink enlarged pores and improve circulation. Finally, near-infrared light increases the impact of the other lights. This light encourages absorption, reduces pain, and encourages healing.

As different colors penetrate the skin to different depths, treatments will normally use a combination of colors. The treatment is gentle and pain-free and can be used to treat all skin types and tones.

The Healite II LED Therapy device treats muscle and joint pain, redness, spasms, scarring, skin aging, and acne. The treatment helps to speed up the body’s healing processes.  Unlike other LED treatments, Healite uses yellow light to start the process. This prepares the patient’s skin for the red light, which encourages collagen production and aids circulation. Finally, blue light fights skin conditions, including acne and wrinkles.

Dermalux LED Phototherapy uses a combination of red, blue, and near-infrared light to treat the hands and face. It speeds up the body’s ability to repair and restore itself and treats conditions including sun damage, rosacea, and eczema. As with other LED light therapies, the device reduces the impact of inflammation, plumps the skin, and reduces wrinkles. It is also effective at ridding the skin of acne-causing bacteria.
