Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is also called buttock fat grafting or lipomodelling. It can enhance the shape and size of the buttocks without implants. Surgeons use fat transfer to create shape, fill in "hip dents," and even correct any sagging caused by natural aging. They take fat from other areas of the patient's body using liposuction. This means that there is less risk of infection or rejection compared to silicone butt implants. The procedure requires general anesthetic and will take a couple of hours to complete.

The surgeon will first perform liposuction on other body areas such as the thighs, stomach, or flanks to get ready for the fat transfer. It is essential for patients to have sufficient excess fat to remove. If not, they will need to delay their procedure to gain weight for the fat removal. After applying local anesthetic, they make small incisions to the area. They  introduce a cannula via the incisions. Moving this back and forth, they break up and suction out the fat needed for the transfer. The extracted fat is then purified and is injected using a gluteal fat augmentation technique. During this method, precise amounts of fat are injected into the butt cheeks and hips to create the desired figure. The whole process can contour the thighs and waist while adding volume to the buttocks. Once the procedure is complete, surgeons may insert drains to help with the recovery process. Scars from the liposuction procedure should be minimal as well.

Patients will notice immediate results, but they will also experience bruising and swelling. However, the results may change over time as it is common for 40% of the fat not to survive. Fat tissues that do remain will last forever unless the patient gains or loses weight in the future. The total recovery will take six weeks. Patients will have to wear a compression garment and refrain from sitting or applying pressure on their bottom for the next two weeks. The results are usually very natural and will be visible a year after the surgical procedure.

Brazilian Butt Lift is one of the more precise procedures in cosmetic surgery. It is essential that the surgery be safely performed as improper technique can lead to fat embolism and death. It is imperative to choose an experienced and skillful surgeon to avoid complications. Some other minor risks that come with BBL are dents, lumps, and slumping.
