Skin tends to lose elasticity and volume as we age. This causes lines and wrinkles to form in some places. The loss of fat, bone, and muscle causes the skin to sag. This is what causes the jawline, cheeks, and chin to lose definition.
Ultrasound treatment or Ultherapy is a non-surgical treatment that harnesses sound wave energy to heat the deep layers of the skin. High frequencies emitted directly into the skin cause vibrations that produce heat and prompt cell repair and regeneration. Existing collagen is remodeled, and new collagen is produced. This causes the skin to tighten and has a “lifting” effect.
Ultherapy has been found to produce natural-looking results after just one treatment. The results tend to improve over time. Patients with mild to moderate skin laxity and good skin elasticity are more likely to see improvement with this treatment. The procedure can be combined with other treatments – like laser and other skin lifting procedures – to improve results. Ultrasound bypasses the top layer of the skin and penetrates the deeper layer without harming the top layer.

The treatment can tighten sagging skin on the neck, under the chin, along the décolletage,
and on the brow. Before the procedure, the dermatologist will discuss expectations, risks, and results. At the start of the procedure, the practitioner will cleanse and numb the area.
Other pain medication will be given to prevent discomfort. A gel will be applied to the
skin to help conduct the energy. A handheld device will be passed along the skin’s surface. The procedure can last 30 – 90 minutes. As it is a non-invasive procedure, there is minimal downtime and side effects. It is suitable for all skin types and all skin tones.
After the procedure, patients may experience slight swelling, tingling, tenderness, bruising, and numbness. While patients may be able to see some results immediately, improvements will continue for 2 – 6 months. The full effects of the treatment can last up to a year. Patients can have more than one session of the treatment if required.
