All-on-4 dental implants can replace a whole set of teeth on both the top and bottom jaw. Restoring missing teeth is vital as it can affect chewing and speech and could even change the shape of the face. All-on-4 implants are attached to the jawbone using threaded components that mimic the tooth root. This procedure is slightly different from traditional implant treatment.
In a conventional approach, missing teeth require individual implants to attach each tooth. The All-on-4 implant secures a whole set of teeth using just four implants. Once the restoration is complete, the bridge cannot be removed. Still, professional dentists can take them out for regular cleaning.
Each All-on-4 arch contains 10-14 teeth which can fit a whole row on the bottom or top of the mouth. They are made of titanium, zirconia and porcelain, looking just like natural teeth. Suitable candidates for an all-on-4 implant are those with adequate bone tissue in the four areas where the implants will be installed. In some cases, dentists may use a longer implant for those with lesser bone mass.
If a patient only has a couple of missing teeth while the rest of the set looks healthy, an All-on-4 implant design may not be the best option. They can consider the traditional dental implant procedure instead.
Before the procedure, patients must undergo X-rays and CT scans to ensure they have enough bone structure for the process. The restoration will require a local or general anaesthetic. The dentist will first remove any remaining teeth and treat infected gums if needed. They position the implants to the front and back of the mouth before anchoring the set of teeth securely with the screws. The dentist will install a temporary arch while the jaw heals over the next couple of months. After 4-6 months, dentists will replace the

temporary arch with a permanent one.
All-on-4 implants require care and maintenance through regular brushing and flossing of the teeth. Patients will also have to visit their dentists for routine check-ups and cleaning.
