The Brazilian butt lift (BBL) revision aims to correct any issues or complications after an initial BBL. Sometimes patients end up with less than satisfactory results due to lack of shape and volume, asymmetry, dents, lumps, and rippling. During a revision procedure, surgeons will either transfer more fat to the affected areas or use liposuction to remove fat. Depending on the issue, they may recommend a combination of fat grafting and gluteal implants to fix any concerns.

Patients need to wait a minimum of 6 months after their initial BBL before a revision procedure. During this period, some of the issues may resolve themselves.

It is advisable to visit your original surgeon before consulting with a new surgeon for your revision procedure. Revision surgery is more complicated than the initial procedure. It will be easier to solve any issues with a surgeon who better knows your medical history. As the buttocks have major arteries running through them, it is essential to retain the expertise of a
board-certified surgeon. Incorrect grafting can cause significant complications
including death.

BBL revision requires that the patient be placed under general anesthetic. It takes longer than the initial procedure as the surgery requires more precision. For issues such as dents and uneven lumps, liposuction might be necessary. The surgeon will extract fat tissues from other body areas, such as the stomach or thighs. They purify the fat and inject it into the indented areas of the buttocks to even out the surface. The revision procedure is usually performed in the same area as the initial surgery. This means that the cannulas will have to pierce through thicker scar tissue. In such cases, ultrasound-assisted liposuction may be necessary. This method can remove 40% more fat than the traditional procedure. For dimples and skin redundancy issues, surgeons may opt for Renuvion, a non-surgical alternative using radiofrequency, to tighten and lift loose skin. Another option is a lateral thigh and buttock tuck, which can raise the buttocks to remove any excess skin.

Patients need to take at least one week off after their revision procedure. They also have to avoid sitting or putting any pressure on their buttocks for at least two weeks.
